π The Secret to Jaw-Dropping 3D Renderings: Ambient Occlusion! π
Have you ever seen a 3D rendering that looked so realistic it made you do a double-take? It’s likely that the artist used a technique called “ambient occlusion” to create that stunning effect.
π What is ambient occlusion?
It’s a rendering technique that calculates the amount of ambient light that can reach a point on a surface, taking into account the occlusion (or blocking) of light by nearby objects. Essentially, it adds depth and shadow to your 3D models, making them look more lifelike.
π‘Here’s a quick example to help you understand:
Imagine you’re looking at a 3D model of a cup. Without ambient occlusion, the cup might look flat and artificial, without any shading to show where the sides of the cup curve away from the light. With ambient occlusion, the edges of the cup would be darker where the light can’t reach, creating a more realistic and dimensional look.
