Art Block
Posted by jerichoemmanuel on March 7, 2023 at 12:47 amAccording to an Online Article written by Kevin Hayler, “Art block describes a period of time when an artist has no ideas for new work. The artist loses their ability to produce stimulating original work, and their output grinds to a halt. The condition is associated with anxiety and a complete lack of motivation.”
Do Creative Graphic Designers experience “Art Block” as well? If so, how do you/they overcome it?- This discussion was modified 1 year, 2 months ago by JerichoEmmanuel.

From personal experience, I find that taking a break is the most effective solution. It’s important to not force yourself to make art when you don’t feel like it (burnout starts from this).
However, when it comes to situations where you have to finish an output within a certain timeframe, I find that watching speed arts/sketchbook flip-throughs on Youtube, Tiktok, or Instagram simultaneously while I work helps me distract myself from the pressure of the task. It also helps me draw inspiration from the artist I’m watching ☺️.
Good luck with your art block! 🙏

Get feedback Whether it’s from customers or coworkers, ask for input from others. Identifying areas for improvement and generating fresh ideas may both be aided by constructive criticism.

After a series of complicated designs made, I too experience art block or be in the state of being burnt out. I just take time to rest and refocus my thinking creatively.
