Want to take your website design to the next level? Learn the art of balance and tension through positive and negative space manipulation!

When it comes to designing a website, creating a sense of balance is essential. One way to achieve balance is by utilizing positive and negative space. Positive space is the area occupied by the main elements of a composition, while negative space is the empty area surrounding them. Here are some ways you can use positive and negative space to create a sense of balance or tension:

    1. Balance through Symmetry: By placing equal elements on either side of a design, you can create a symmetrical balance that is visually appealing.

    2. Tension through Asymmetry: Alternatively, you can use asymmetrical balance to create tension and interest. By placing elements of varying sizes and shapes on each side of the design, you can create a visually dynamic composition.

    3. Using White Space: Also known as negative space, white space can be used to create emphasis, draw attention to important elements, and create a sense of openness and airiness.

    4. Playing with Proximity: The proximity of elements can also impact the balance of a composition. By grouping elements together, you can create a sense of unity and balance, while separating them can create tension and interest.

Color is another factor to take into account when it comes to balance in design. Having colors that do not match or not properly utilizing them can cause a design to go from good to bad. Making sure that the colors go well together is essential. But it’s also important to utilize colors in a way to your advantage. An example is by using colors that pop for text or buttons (E.g. SALE, Check out, etc.) you want your viewer to pull focus in.

The technique I used to create a sense of balance or tension in my website is scale. Varying the scale of elements on page can create visual interest and tension. Large elements can draw the eye and create a focal point, while smaller elements can provide balance and support.

the sizes of the margins, how some divisions overlap over each other, and what hue fits the website. It’s kind of hard to explain since codes are in a different language but all you shared was put into wise words. Thank you as I might also use this when I create new websites from now on.
