• The Importance of Feedback

Posted by HannahJ on March 14, 2023 at 10:58 am

Feedback is an essential part of the design process. It provides a fresh perspective and can help identify areas for improvement. Giving and receiving feedback can be a daunting task, but it is important to do so in order to grow as a designer.

To give constructive feedback, it is important to be specific and objective. Instead of simply saying “I don’t like it,” provide specific examples of what is not working and offer suggestions for improvement. It is also important to balance criticism with praise and highlight what is working well in the design.

When receiving feedback, it is important to listen carefully and ask questions for clarification. Try not to take feedback personally, but instead view it as an opportunity to learn and improve. It can also be helpful to seek feedback from a variety of sources, such as other designers, clients, or end users.

Incorporating feedback into the design process can lead to better outcomes and stronger designs. It is important to approach feedback with an open mind and a willingness to learn and improve.

What is the best feedback you’ve ever received? What is the worst, and how did you take it?

Thank you for sharing this valuable insight about the importance of feedback. I agree that feedback is crucial to improving skills and growing. Your tips on how to give and receive constructive feedback are helpful.

I can relate to receiving feedback that wasn’t helpful, as I once received a comment from someone who simply said “I don’t like it” without offering any explanation. It was frustrating not knowing how to improve or what specifically they didn’t like. This experience has taught me the importance of being specific when giving feedback, so that the recipient can understand what needs improvement and how to improve it.

I believe that feedback, whether positive or negative, can be a valuable learning experience. It is important to approach feedback with an open mind and a willingness to learn and improve.

Yes, I agree as well. You need to lay out your constructive feedback in terms of what should it improve and other things.

So far, the worst feedback I’ve received are those who don’t listen to what I have to say right after I finished listening to them.

In my experiences, the best feedback I’ve received was specific, actionable, and focused on areas where I could enhance my design work. It motivated me to push my boundaries and strive for excellence in my craft. While I haven’t encountered the worst feedback yet, I understand the importance of approaching criticism with an open mind and use it as a stepping stone for growth. As a newcomer to receiving clients for design / commissions services, I welcome all feedback as valuable learning opportunities and I’m prepared to learn from both positive and negative feedback to become better at my craft.
